Over nearly twenty years, Kendall Wilkinson Design & Home has successfully managed hundreds of full-scale interior design projects. Our tight-knit team of thirteen is well-educated in interior design and interior architecture, furniture design, project management, communications, and finance. Whether we are engaged in a full-scale remodel or customizing a furniture piece for a store client, our goal is to provide a well-conceived, functional design plan that can be implemented in a time frame, budget and style consistent with the client's desires. To guide us in our growth, we are seeking a General Manager/Director of Finance and Operations to direct, oversee and manage all aspects of the design and retail business' day-to-day finance/operations functions, and execute the overall business plan. We are seeking a hands-on GM to will work as a Controller and Chief of Staff . We are a small nimble company, we wear many hats, we support each other, and we share responsibilities when appropriate.

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The GM will oversee both Operations and Finance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

OPERATIONS
Act as Chief of Staff:
  • Effectively manage all human resource aspects of the business, including payroll, employee reviews, human resource documentation, employee handbooks, related legal issues, hiring, termination and training of new staff.
  • Shape and support employee work flow and priorities, train/educate staff software, policies and procedures.
  • Be proactive in financial and operational functions, processes and procedures. Apply continuous improvement.
  • Manage the retail store function and operations including sales, processing orders, inventory and ecommerce.
  • Manage overall office functions and projects as they occur regarding: computer/technical issues, supplies, office maintenance.
  • Oversee external public relations/marketing consultants’ representation, strategy and programs, including overall presentation of the firm, marketing, design, promotion, advertising, graphic design, website, print materials, and events.
  • Work directly with and develop strong relationships with external clients as necessary; field inquiries, provide customer satisfaction and follow-up.
  • Oversee business and financial aspects of project proposals.
  • Conduct weekly management meetings with Principal/Owner.
  • Conduct monthly financial meetings with bookkeeper, accountant and Principal/Owner.
FINANCE
The GM will be responsible for preparing company financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting reports, accounts payable, budgeting, tax compliance and financial analysis.
  • Management of the finance function and supervising a bookkeeper
  • Preparation of budgets, forecasts, cash flow/cash management
  • Maintenance of financial ledgers and accounting processes
  • Preparation of monthly balance sheet and income statement
  • Timely production of internal financial reports
  • Financial modeling and analysis
  • Ensuring that appropriate systems and internal controls are implemented and maintained
  • Overseeing the payroll process
  • Management and oversight of billings and collections
  • Maintenance of contractor/vendor relationships and payments
  • Management and oversight of purchasing and accounts payable
  • Responsibility for insurance matters and risk management
  • Contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Gather/prepare tax information for CPA

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Minimum of ten years of overall business management experience. Minimum of five years of solid experience managing finance and operations in a professional services firm. Experience with any design related company is a plus.
Successful track record of managing the operations and finance of a small office.
Strong skills with accounting software. Any exposure to “Studio IT” software is a plus.

Experience and comfort working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree is required, ideally in accounting, business, finance, or related field. MBA is a plus.
