POSITION TITLE: Senior Accountant REPORTING TO: General Manager LOCATION: South San Francisco (94080) OUR CLIENT: Royal Hawaiian Seafood Website: http://www.royalhawaiianseafood.com/ In business since 1985, Royal Hawaiian Seafood (RHS) sells high grade seafood products to restaurants. Our primary customers are fine dining restaurants from approximately Big Sur to Napa. We focus on responsibly produced fresh and live seafood, but also offer a wide range of high caliber frozen seafood items. RHS is dedicated to sourcing and providing safe, traceable and sustainable seafood and is also committed to developing and promoting sustainable fisheries. The company is poised for aggressive growth, and is seeking a Senior Accountant to improve the financial systems, reporting software, and financial policies and procedures. We are a privately held company, with revenues under $25 million, and we are seeking Senior Accountant who is familiar with the challenges of a small company with limited resources. In addition to the transactional portion of the position, we seek someone with forensic accounting skills, as well as higher level financial strategy “CFO” skills and aspirations to grow with the company and in the position. This is a full time, permanent position. SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Senior Accountant is the highest level financial position in the company, reporting to the General Manager. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for all of the accounting operations of the company, including: the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an accurate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Senior Accountant will oversee the Administration department including its staff, and the policies and procedures. The company is poised for aggressive growth, and the Senior Accountant is a crucial position in order to improve the financial systems, reporting software, and financial policies and procedures. In addition to the transactional portion of the position, the Senior Accountant should be someone with higher level financial strategy “CFO” skills and aspirations. Ideal Candidate: Goal oriented. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Financial Transactions:- Pay accounts payable in a timely manner and take advantage of all reasonable discounts
- Collect accounts receivable promptly
- Process (submit) payroll in a timely manner
- Reconcile bank statements
- Pay required debt payments on a timely basis
- Maintain the chart of accounts
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
- Issue timely and complete financial statements
- Coordinate the preparation of all reports, including the annual report
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
- Provide for a system of management cost reports
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
- Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
- Manage the budgeting process
- Supervise the Accounting department. Oversee the operations of the accounting/administration department, including the design of an organizational structure which is adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives. Set clear performance goals for the department and manage and measure to those goals.
- Manage outsourced functions, including payroll and human resources.
- Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans and tactical initiatives as applicable
- Develop financial and tax strategies as well as improve efficiencies throughout the company
- Assist in the development and tracking of performance measures that support the company's strategic direction
- Develop, maintain, and measure an improved, documented system of accounting policies and procedures
- Oversee the accounting operations, especially the control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
- Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Knowledge, skills and experience in the above listed responsibilities.
- 8+ years of progressively responsible related accounting experience.
- Wholesale/Distributor and inventory accounting knowledge is required.
- Excellent computer and accounting systems knowledge and skills. Excellent command of all standard financial reports, as well as ability to create custom reports as needed.
- Strong accounts receivable skills: ability to implement and maintain an effective and ethical invoicing and collection process.
- Strong people management skills. Ability to recruit and hire, manage employees and have experience with documented termination.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, QuickBooks and ability to learn additional applications as needed.
- Food, beverage or consumer products accounting is a plus.
