POSITION TITLE: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
REPORTING TO: Director of Engineering

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design new product from start to finish. Support mechanical design with analysis and testing of new products from product specifications. Must produce mechanical prototypes and prepare all necessary project and design documentation, through product release. Will be responsible for enhancing and sustaining existing product designs.
Work with mechanical designs that use sheet metal and plastic components.
Produce and maintain design schedules.
Interface closely with marketing to sustain existing products and to assist in the creation and development of new products according to customer needs.
Interact with machine shop to develop product prototypes.
Work with machined and fabricated metal components and mechanisms.
Assist in the vendor selection to ensure the highest quality products.
Experience in capital equipment for manufacturing.
Provide technical support for new and existing products in manufacturing and in the field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
The Mechanical Engineer must have 5-7 demonstrable years of mechanical design experience and hands-on experience in the following areas:
Ability to work with all phases of mechanical design, and experience with small mechanical mechanisms such as: latching devices, locking devices, solenoid actuators and small motor driven devices. Knowledge of tooling and fixtures and parts machining.
Familiarity with the design of sheet metal parts that are to be stamped and formed, e.g. housings, brackets, levers and cams.
Working knowledge of rigid and soft plastic material molded parts, machined parts, and attachments with various adhesive systems such as cyanoacrylates and epoxies, etc.
Knowledge of processes: powder coat and under coatings. Interactions of metal types with powder coating.
Ability to formulate build process for hand off to production.
Knowledge of cyanoacrylates etc.
Experience providing accurate project and design documentation.
Experience with computerized MRP.
Excellent software skills: Utilize solid modeling and two-dimensional drawings. SolidWorks 2001 experience required. AutoCAD is a plus.

Experience with machine and fixture design.

Must have FEA experience.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree: BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. MSME a plus
