POSITION TITLE: Accounting Supervisor/Cost Accountant
REPORTING TO: Controller
LOCATION: Calistoga, CA (94515)
OUR CLIENT: Beverage Company
The Company is creating a new position for Accounting Supervisor/Cost Accountant, and seeks someone to manage and maintain the functions and duties of their accounting needs.
SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Accounting Supervisor/Cost Accountant, under the direction of the Controller, is responsible for financial statement and report preparation, and for supervision and control of the general accounting area. This includes general ledger, payables, payroll, fixed assets, budget reporting, and statistical accumulation. This individual is also responsible for assisting departments with annual budget preparation and budget reviews; reviewing entries to the general and statistical ledgers to assure accuracy; assisting in recruitment of personnel; supervising a staff of 4 people; operating standard office equipment; and designing and utilizing computer reports and output. The employee's work location will be at the company's Calistoga facility. The employee will need to be familiar with current and new regulations and guidelines relating to finance and accounting principles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Supervises and trains those employees in accounting, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
2. Regularly reviews entries to the general ledgers to assure accuracy and compliance with established accounting principles and procedures. Prepares general ledger entries.
3. Prepares financial and statistical reports as required.
4. Coordinates and prepares for financial audits as required by company policy, governmental regulations, or other organizations.
5. Assists departments in the review of budget reports and in preparation of annual capital, expense, and activity budgets.
6. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and coordinating the completion of all applicable reports.
7. Performs Bank Statement Reconciliations
8. Prepares and/or reviews required tax returns.
9. Recommends changes in financial policies and procedures, as necessary.
10. Monitors established internal controls to assure proper compliance.
11. Recommends systems and procedures applicable to the Cost Accounting function.
12. Prepares and updates all cost estimates.
13. Prepares standard cost updates for Item Master file.
14. Responsible for new-product cost estimates and providing recommendations for cost efficiency in new-product design.
15. Prepares and reviews income/expense analysis.
16. Provides Marketing and General Accounting with product sample costs.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists in the preparation of cost reimbursement reports and other interim reports as may be required.
2. Assists with planning and implementing changes in the accounting system.
3. Assists in the recruitment of personnel and evaluates personnel under own supervision.
4. Performs and directs special projects as requested.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
6. Assists in auditing and costing of all inventories.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1. This position requires a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting and three (3) years' experience in manufacturing or public accounting assisting a manufacturing operation; or any combination of experience, education, and training which would provide the level of knowledge, skill, and ability required. A CPA is also highly desirable.
2. Knowledge of technical and professional principles and skills of accounting and finance, including a strong working knowledge of cost accounting.
3. Knowledge of data processing capabilities and procedures, including the use of computers.
4. Knowledge of appropriate management and supervisory skills to supervise general accounting staff.
6. Ability to maintain good working relationships with co-workers, supervisor, management, and department head staff and various agency personnel.
7. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with a wide range of people.
8. Two years of supervisory experience.
9. Experience with preparation of Financial Statements
10. Must have an excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
11. Must possess strong working knowledge of Excel.
12. Knowledge of VAI Systems 2000 Software a plus.
