POSITION TITLE: Senior Structural Engineer

REPORTING TO: Branch Manager

LOCATION: Emeryville, CA (94608)

The Company is a firm of structural engineers, architects, and materials scientists dedicated to providing practical, innovative, and technically sound solutions to problems in existing structures. Our projects include complex structural problems, collapse investigations, forensic studies, and seismic evaluations of historic structures. We perform damage assessments after earthquakes worldwide and after disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and Sept 11.

We seek a Senior Structural Engineer for our Emeryville office to join our team.

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Acts as project manager and primary client contact
-Evaluates, investigates, and designs repairs for building envelope and structural systems
-Completes the structural analysis of wood, steel or concrete structural systems of both historical and contemporary structures
-Prepares proposals and outlines scope of services
-Assembles and manages appropriate project team
-Researches structure history and technical and code issues
-Plans and mobilizes for site inspections and investigations
-Prepares drawings and specifications, and prepares final project manual
-Conducts on-site observations of work in progress
-Analyzes research and investigation data and develops solutions
-Monitors and conducts laboratory testing
-Attends field meetings and prepares site observation reports
-Drafts investigational reports
-Is active in professional organizations, authors papers, attends conferences and performs work on technical committees
-Builds client relationships
-Attracts new and repeat business
-Prepares survey baseline drawings, measured drawings, CAD drawings and specifications, and prepares the final project manual
-Prepares bid documents
-Documents distress, completes field testing, removes samples, takes photographs, and makes sketches
-Maintains project records

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

-Experience in managing small and medium-sized projects
-Active in professional organizations
-Strong technical and general written and oral communication skills
-Strong computer skills including CAD and Microsoft Office

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

-Ability to work in the field
-Ability to travel outside local area, depending on local work load and project locations
-Interest in investigating and solving problems in existing structures, rather than in design

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering with nine years of experience with an architectural or architectural/engineering firm. Preferred is a Master's degree in Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering with six years of experience with an architectural or architectural/engineering firm.

Registration as an architect or engineer is preferred
