POSITION TITLE: Financial Analyst/Cost Accountant

REPORTING TO: CFO

LOCATION: Near Eureka, CA

OUR CLIENT:
The 85 year old company produces milk, dairy products and ice cream in multiple locations.

We are seeking a Financial Analyst/Cost Accountant to assist in the accounting function in cost management and analysis.

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for timely and accurate development, processing and reporting of internal costing data in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Financial liaison with finance, production and operations to analyze product cost.
General costing functions, assisting with preparation of monthly financials, COGS, yielded costing, and costing for new products.
Assists in month-end close including developing related journal entries and assisting in related reconciliations to book.
May observe physical inventories to ensure they are performed in accordance with company procedures and counts are accurate and complete.
Participates in reconciling inventory.
Develops and maintains internal yield and working cost models, to address issues, and analyze and present results to management on a routine basis.
Prepares and presents monthly price/volume and yield variance analysis for cost of goods sold for product lines.
Analyzes product cost changes each period and variance analysis.
Highlights issues impacting cost and communicate with management and department supervisors.
Identifies trends that impact cost and quality.
Gathers necessary data, prepare appropriate reports.
Additional duties as requested.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Three to ten years of solid cost accounting in a manufacturing or processing environment.
Experience with the areas of the scope and responsibilities of the position, as listed above.
Experience with costing products of a perishable nature, preferably food and beverage related.
Dairy experience is a plus.
Exposure to Co-op ownership is a plus.
Experience working in an ERP or MRP environment.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

Strong cost accounting skills (method of cost accounting).
Strong PC skills with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Solid understanding of accounting principles.
Excellent analytical and communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to work well in a team environment while focusing on individual tasks and priorities.
Must be detail oriented, highly organized and able to work independently.
Self-starter, dependable and possess the ability to respond quickly and accurately on multiple priorities.
Must be reliable and trustworthy.
Have a strong worth ethic, personal integrity and commitment to a job well done.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related course of study.
MBA is a plus.
